On Saturday January 30th the first entirely virtual edition of the Dutch Brain Olympiad 2021 took place. Forty high school student from all over The Netherlands competed with each other in a knowledge quiz on neuroscience and the brain. After three rounds, five students had the highest scores and Femke, Rayan, Nynke, Katinka and Freek played in the final round. The winner of the finals was Katinka Ruhof from the Goois Lyceum in Bussum and she gets to represent The Netherlands this year in the International Brain Bee in San Diego. The top 3 high school students win a medal and a study book on the brain from our sponsor Wolters-Kluwer.
Next to the competition, the Dutch Brain Olympiad also had a lecture on brain anatomy with a live dissection of a calf brain by Stichting Brein in Beeld, a keynote lecture of Professor Sabine Spijker, and a Brain Expo with virtual science booths and posters.
